Hi there!
Nice to meet you! Those two guys to the left are Liam and Mariana and they’re the happy little backpackers behind Rucksack Ramblings. They’re a mid-twenties Australian-Danish couple who share a love for unknown paths, new experiences and staying curious. Back in 2013, Mariana left Copenhagen the same week she graduated from uni to go solo backpacking till the very last cent. Liam had that same brilliant idea in 2014 and in 2015, they randomly met on a beach in the lovely San Blas Islands. Between the two, they’ve backpacked extensively through South America, Central America, North America, Western Europe and Eastern Europe as well as countries in Northern Africa and the Middle East. They’re currently based in Australia while mapping out their next shenanigans.
What We Do
We have a PhD in backpacking on a tight budget. We’ve done it for more than 4 years and know every trick in the oh-man-how-am-I-going-to-make-my-money-last book.
When we’re on the road, we aim to spend around $20 a day. That includes accommodation, food, and transport. Because of our budget, but also because we love escaping the crowds, we often end up in off-the-beaten-path destinations. Many times, we find it’s the chicken buses that are the most fun, the local food markets that are the most interesting, and the locals that know the best spots.
That’s how, over the years, we’ve become quite good at getting unique and epic experiences without blowing our budget. But don’t get us wrong – it’s not all about money. Above all, we think backpacking is about feeling good, learning new things, and enjoying life.
Oh, and eating crap tonnes of new, tasty food.
